Freezer full of milk available
We were milkshare recipients for the first year of my son's life, but around 9-10 mos he decided he was no longer interested in BM and has refused it since. I keep hoping he'd be willing to go back to it, but at this point I have to accept that the stash in my freezer is aging and he's not drinking it.
At this point, some of this milk is over 12 mos old, so it is deteriorating in nutrition, but it is not unsafe for an older child (I wouldn't give it to a NB or a preemie). When using older milk, I always mixed it with fresher, but never had a problem with it. It has been stored in an exclusively BM deep freeze since I received it, and it rarely gets opened. I have no idea how much is there - but it is a dedicated chest freezer and it is mostly full. Some of this milk will need to be taken out still frozen and immediately scalded (don't thaw it - put it frozen into a pan), due to lipase. I'm happy to mark which bags I know are from moms with excess lipase.
I will be emptying/defrosting the freezer at the end of July whether the milk is gone or not. It just doesn't make sense to keep running it just for something that we will never use. I'm hopeful that someone somewhere is interested in this milk, since nobody locally seems to be.
