Hi,
I have my first 6 months of milk supply that I have been saving for my daughter's future use. I originally wanted to begin donating after 3 months but my midwife cautioned me to keep it just in case. I am now realizing that there seems no end in sight of milk for my daughter, as I am a stay at home mom. I would hate for this milk to go to waste.
A little about my milk: I am a mostly vegetarian, healthy, 34 year old. I eat as much organic food as I can afford to, avoiding foods known to be high in pesticides and carefully washing/peeling other foods so that the milk I pass on to my daughter is as nutritious as possible. I take a whole foods vitamin as well as fish oil daily. My daughter is the picture of health at the 50th percentile for length and between 50 and 75th percentile for weight. People just love her chubby legs!
I have been storing the milk in medela breastmilk storage bags in the regular freezer. I would say I store on average 3.5 to 4 oz. per day, with some days as little as 2 or as much as 6 oz. The bags are all labeled with the date and amount. A few days are missing because either I didn't get the milk into the freezer right away (I prefer to err on the side of caution) or during times that I used the pumped milk to attempt to get my daughter to take a bottle (which she never took to).
My midwife is willing to give me the ok for a clean bill of health to donate. I don't have the paperwork yet but wanted to get the process going asap if someone is in need and so the milk isn't wasted.
