Hi there, I have some milk from when my little one was 3 1/2 months old that has been stored in a deep freezer. I'm in Chicago, Illinois and can provide the health screening from my pregnancy.

About me: 30 year old, college graduate, mommy of a beautiful 7 month old named Sophia. I'm healthy, don't smoke, drink or do drugs, avoid gassy foods but haven't been compliant with my prenatal vitamins. I've taken some Fenugreek here and there (when my supply has dipped) and took antibiotics twice for mastitis (prescribed by my OB, breastfeeding safe).

I've never shipped milk before, though...

Hi,

My husband and I were unable to have children and pursued adoption. We just found out that a birthmother due in less than 2 weeks has chosen us to be the parents of her soon-to-arrive baby!

The birthfather has Type-1 diabetes and injects insulin 2x daily. Our OB-GYN here in NYC who reviewed the medical records said that this means our adopted baby will be at higher risk of developing diabetes, too, and that cow's milk formula is a known trigger for babies with high risk! I asked the birthmother if she would be willing to pump and ship but she wants to put the pregnancy and adoption behind her.

I found this milksharing group through a wonderful nurse and lactation consultant - I called to ask her if there was any way for me to induce lactation. Unfortunately, due to my pituitary gland issues and medication I am taking, she advised against it, plus it would take longer than we have - the baby could arrive any day!

Please help if you can. We are happy to pay for supplies and shipping and medical screening tests. The lactation consultant said that breast milk naturally changes composition as time goes on to provide the perfect nutrition for each age of the baby, so she recommended that we at least *try* to find a fairly new mother as her milk would be the best for a newborn nutritionally. However, if that is not possible we still believe any breast milk would be better than formula!

We live in New York City. It would be fantastic to find someone locally and meet in person, but we are open to a long-distance milk donor.

We want to give this baby the best possible start in life, and it breaks our hearts that we may be making it sick with something as terrible as Type 1 diabetes if we feed the baby formula.

THANK YOU! Those two words are inadequate to express our gratitude.
