How much per day for "donation"? Empty How much per day for "donation"?

Post by g8ratc Sun Jun 13, 2010 2:27 pm

Hi! I am a previous donor, and donor to the milkbank. on kid #2 and looking to dnate locally. With kid #1- I stored a whole bunch of milk in my deep freeze and sent it off in a big cooler. Trying to donate locally, I realize a baby may not need 250 oz at once and then not again for months! So my question is, with nursing and pumping, about how much do you donors set aside for your babies, leaving how much to donate? I ran out of my own BM with kid #1 and had to supplement with formula at 11.5 months Sad Don't want to donate too much and leave myself in the lurch again, (not returning to work this time, so it should be better) but also want to donate enough to make it worth it. How big is weekly donation for most of you?
Thanks for answering my crazy questions! Have a great day!

I donate locally about 80 ounces a week, but at first it was only about 40 ounces a week- I had to build up my supply. I'm trying to get up around 100 a week (16 a day). My dd nurses at the breast exclusively so I don't reserve any for her. I think recipients will be glad for whatever you can provide; you might just give it to them at longer intervals if you're doing less per day.

I have a few bags of frozen BM in the freezer. I'm home for the summer so I'm not worried about having a stash for her, but before I go back to work in the fall I will build up a little more of a stash. Right now everything I pump is being donated. I'm donating 8-12oz each day depending on how often my DD nurses.
