Freezing milk Empty Freezing milk

Post by sma123mom Sat Mar 06, 2010 12:20 pm

Hi all, just a quick question. When freezing milk in a deep freezer, I know you are not supposed to open the freezer more often than necessary to ensure that it keeps the right temperature. How long should you keep the milk in your regular freezer (above refrigerator) before putting into the deep freeze? I want my milk to keep as long as possible and I've heard that can be up to one year in a deep freezer, but if I leave my milk in the regular freezer for a week before transferring to deep freeze does that diminish the time I can then keep the milk frozen in deep freeze? I want to balance not opening the deep freezer every single time I pump with getting the milk into the colder freezer ASAP to be able to keep my frozen supply as long as possible. I hope that makes sense. More simply put... Should I put batches of my frozen milk into the deep freezer once a day? Once a week? Once a month? Thanks for any input.

I'm not too sure, either. Usually I freeze milk in the regular freezer until I collect enough, then transport them to the deep freezer, maybe every couple of days for me.
