Re: Hampton Roads Area, but will travel to Richmond/Beltway/DC
I'm a working, pumping mom too. I did bring breast milk back on a plane once and it is allowed. What I did was printed off this page http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm and took it with me. Before I went through the line I actually opened the cooler bag for the agent and said, "this is breast milk for my baby at home" and then showed them my breast pump. They were fine with it and just made it all go through the x-ray machine. You can also get a note from your OBGYN or pediatrician if you are really worried that states you are in fact a mom with an infant who is nursing.
I also suggest you not freeze the milk you save from your trip, keep it cold in the fridge until you fly home and then use ice for the trip (you can restock easy at the air port). Then you don't have to worry about it thawing during the flight, I've found it's much easier to keep the milk cold then it is to keep it frozen.
Oh and I have taken 2 two week business trips and my daughter still nursed when I got home so if anything just pump and dump (I also did that because she was older and not taking my expressed milk any more). You can check out the whole story on my blog (www.abreastfeedingstory.blogspot.com)
A great way I increased my supply before leaving was to get up and pump on one side while my daughter nursed on the other, it was exhausting, but really helped me have a great supply to start with on my trip. Don't be alarmed either because your supply will drop by the end of the trip, but the most important thing is that you are still making milk by the end not the ammount.
Good luck!
