Best way to ship?

Post by khmillis on Thu Mar 25, 2010 3:26 pm

I'm new here and just found my first receiver of breastmilk and am wanting to know what is the easiest/best way to ship the breastmilk? I've heard lots of different options but was wondering what you guys think is the best way to ship? Any suggestsion for a first-time shipper? How's the easiest way to set up payment for shipping? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So far, I have shipped with UPS overnight (next day by 10:30am), UPS 2-day-air, and UPS Ground (our distance was so close that Ground was only 2-days). I'm waiting on response from one of my recipient moms how Ground did, but another recipient mom who received my milk via UPS 2-day-air said they stayed mostly frozen (not really even slushy).

I think the easiest from the donor's perspective is that if the recipient can create an UPS account (or FedEx), and send us the shipping label for me. I called the UPS customer service, and they said if recipient create a "return" shipping label (there is a $1 charge for "return" label), donor can receive the link in the email to print the shipping label on donor's side. All I'll have to do is to print, and either schedule a pick up or drop off at staffed UPS locations. I have not shipped via FedEx or Post Office yet, though.

Dear Kiersten,

I read "shipping basics questions" just a few lines down from your posted question and there were some good tips. Have you check it out?
