Two dads with a five day old baby girl looking for milk in Brooklyn
Your generous offer
I'm so sorry to hear of Gustavo Gabriel's death. I can't imagine how difficult it might be to lose a child. Although inadequate, I offer you my most sincere condolences. May your sons memory be for a blessing and may you and your family be comforted as you continue to mourn his passing.
My apologies for the delayed response. You have made us a very generous offer, for which we are grateful. That being said, Jeffrey and I were recently given nearly 2000 of milk, with the promise of an addition 3000! In fact, it would seem that we have enough milk to keep our daughter fed for the next several months. So, while we would be glad to relieve you of your supply, perhaps there are others on this forum who are in greater need. Please do let us know if the milk goes unclaimed and we will arrange a pick up.
Thanks again for your generosity. Take good care and be well. Jack

Re: Two dads with a five day old baby girl looking for milk in Brooklyn
I've just posted on the forum - so i apologize if you're reading this twice.
My son, Gustavo Gabriel, was stillborn on February 15, 2011 due to a umbilical cord accident. He was full term at 40 weeks.
I began pumping once my milk came in on day 4, with the intent on donating it.
I needed to be on antibiotics (Macrobid) to help treat an UTI for a few days. I was also on a muscle relaxer (Flexeril) to help with the muscle spams that I was suffering from after the induced birth.
I stopped all medications on day 4 and began pumping without any medications in my system. In addition, I've followed the same guidelines posted by Wake Med Milk Bank, and even have a formal letter from my tattoo artist that explains her sterilization methods during her prep from the tattoo I got last year May 2010. I also have my blood work from my doctor proving negative results for the following: Syphilis, Hepatitis B & C & HIV.
Because it became the saddest part of my day, I've needed to stop pumping. I know the formal Milk Banks won't accept most of this milk because of the medications I was on at the start and because I will not meet their minimum 200 oz. requirement for donation.
My midwife and lactation consultant informed me that the milk can be diluted with other donor milk so that it can still be used.
It breaks my heart to imagine throwing my son's milk away.
I would love to be able to offer my milk to your family.
I now have about 80.5 oz of milk (frozen). It's not much but I offer it with all the love I've saved for my baby.
I've always kept a healthy diet, I'm not a smoker, I do not drink and I haven't any allergies.
Please contact me if interested. I am desperate to get Gus' milk into the right hands.
Warmly,
Janice Quiles-Reyes
