General question- would people be interested in receiving only a day or two worth of milk?

Post by irishgator1 on Mon Nov 15, 2010 12:59 pm

I'm new to the forum and have a quick question. I travel a fair amount all over the country for my job; I'm usually gone Sunday through Friday. I exclusively pump for my LO and average about 36 oz a day. With all my work stuff, it just seems overwhelming to pump while I'm gone and try to figure out how to ship/carry back all that breast milk, as I will be flying several different places within that one week. So my question is, would recipients be interested in getting only a day or two worth of milk? I'm thinking that I could arrange to meet up with someone the last night of my stay in place A and then meet up with someone else the last night of my stay in place B, though that might be only a day's worth of milk. Or are people more interested in getting much more than 36-100 oz? If so, I probably would dump it.

I would be interested in any amount of milk whether it be enough for one feeding or a week's worth. It all depends on how easy it is for me to get the milk. I am sure you would be able to find plenty of mother's who would meet up with you to pick up any amount of milk you can give.

Don't dump it! I once drove one hour to pick up 60 oz of milk from a traveling momma. We had this setup about 1.5 months before her travels... and kept in touch (reminder email beforehand) before the day. The day she checked out, I picked up the milk at her hotel which was kept in the fridge (available by the front desk) inside another small cooler. I never met her. I thought she was on her flight back... but it turns out, I could have met her since she hadn't left! I should have called... oh well.

Yes! I'm not a recipient, but from what I know, yes! There would be interest in that! People looking for breast milk consider it liquid gold, and a day's worth of feeding would likely be worth it for quite a few people - it would probably just depend on how easy it was for them to pick it up.

I would say give it a shot. If you don't find anyone perhaps contact a LLL in the city and check with them. They might know of someone in need.

Also check Eats on Feets (I think that;s the name) on Facebook as another outlet.

I had several mothers bring back their stashpile of exclusively pumped milk while they were away at 2-4day conferences, respectively. I was able to use most if not all of it before it went bad. Remember, the milk is fresh which renders it more valuable than frozen with respect to live antibodies, disease-killing cells, etc.

Of course, reading your post it sounds like you want to find a recipient in each place you go to, and that is fine too. May be more difficult to find enough people along your journey that will take your milk, but if you do, all can benefit!
