Portions to freeze milk??? Empty Portions to freeze milk???

Post by Shawnathemomma Tue Aug 17, 2010 1:26 pm

Hi, I am interested in donating breastmilk. I have my 11 week old daughters supply frozen in 3 oz portions for when I go to school. Now I am interested in supplying another momma with milk. I dont have a donation supply saved yet, so i guess my question is to recipient mothers... What portion size would you prefer to receive? (ie 3oz,6oz, 8oz) I produce an excess of about 5 oz per day.

Thanks for the advice in advance,
Shawna

I think mamas are happy to receive milk in whatever portions they can get. Really whatever is easiest for you to freeze they would be greatful to have. I freeze in NUK bags of about 6-8oz each, which is my excess from 1-2 days worth of pumping.
I would say larger sizes (8oz) are better, as if they only need a couple of oz they can thaw it and then use the rest over the next couple of feeds. Plus that will save on bags for storage as well.

I personally defrost what I need for the entire day the night prior. So I would recommend freezing in larger amounts. More importantly, it saves money on bags, and ultimately our environment-less waste!
